you know you love me. xoxo

So, Gossip Girl filmed in Times Square this morning. It was just Blake Lively from the main cast, in what seemed to be some kind of date scene. They had two pedicabs on the set, I don't know what exactly they did with them though.

No, I didn't meet anybody or take piccies, unfortunately before I was able to get close by with a camera, they had finished and the production had moved on. Early in the morning though I did pass by their craft services (catering) tent though, and it looked delish. I think I want to be a TV star just for the free food XD

I did get to stand there and gawk with a coworker for a few mins while they were filming, and I mean literally gawk because in the scene, Serena is making out with some guy, and I'm assuming it's a new love interest b/c I have no idea who the actor was. I admit I only started watching this season, so maybe real fans know who he is, but I didn't recognize him as being one of the regular guys. He was kinda short, dark hair with facial hair and looked like he ought to be kissing boys instead. Also, I have to say it was kind of odd watching actors film a make-out scene. They were just going at it in the middle of Times Square (in real life some native would quickly tell them to get a room in one of the 30000000 hotels nearby) and then the director said cut and they just unhooked from each other and stood there chilling, as if they had just spent the last 2 minutes innocently baking cookies rather than publicly exchanging bodily fluids. NICE. But anyway, we're standing there and after a few, a PA comes over and goes, "yeah...we can actually see you guys on camera, just standing there watching...um, can you move?" LMAO. If I do see my ugly face in an upcoming ep, I'll let you know. Blake seemed very nice though, she was smiling whenever I did see her and she is just as pretty in RL. We admired her ridiculous high heel shoes.

What really amused me about the whole process was that they had 20-30 paid extras that were supposed to be random people walking about TS. But they were all dressed in ~trendy~ outfits and half of them carrying designer shopping bags. Um, that's perfect if you're portraying 5th Ave, but people like that are not indigenous to Times Square. The extras should have all been dressed in sweatpants and fanny packs, carrying maps and looking lost, with a few cranky natives making a beeline inbetween them. THAT is TS. In fact, they should have just used real tourists. Sorry, TV peeps, but it's just wrong to try to make Times Square ~classy~.

Fun fact: I actually have seen the guys of GG in rl before, but it was back when the show first debuted and no one (read: me) knew or cared who they were XD. They're yummy.

And now for a show with a similar premise, if looked at metaphorically...So, I was watching Dexter last night and kept thinking to myself, "I think I'm going to mention on LJ how I have the sinking feeling that by the end of this season, Rita's gonna end up preggers." Imagine my chagrin when end of season turned out to be end of the episode. CHRIST ON A CRACKER. Anyone else smell it coming from a mile away?

Meanwhile, I fell asleep watching House tonight. I'm not sure if this should be attributed to me being exhausted (11 hour workdays FTW!) or House being boring as fuck this season. Probably both. I'm sick of 13 and her drama and the fact that she's just a poor copy of Cameron, and I still have not been given any reason to care about Kumar and Baldy. I hate the House-Wilson breakup. The PI guy is kinda cute, but seriously? Do we seriously need more new characters? And where the hell are C/C/F?? I am almost beginning to miss Cutthroat Bitch, which shows what an EPIC STATE OF EMERGENCY this is. :O If House ran this show, he would have fired the writers a long time ago. (And then have a Survivor-like contest to choose who the 3 new writers should be....oh wait.)

Tell me f-list, should I bother watching the second half of tonight's ep?

EDITED TO ADD the original GG:

STILL FIERCE BB.

ETA 2: HOUSE SPOILER
WTF OH HALE NO!
my thought on the presidential debate today.

MCCAIN: "The government should not pay for health care. That decision is between families and their doctors."

O RLY. You know what other decision should be between families and their doctors? ABORTION. HOMOSEXUALITY. WHAT A WOMAN DOES OR DOES NOT DO WITH HER BODY. Let's keep the government out of that too.

Oh, you and Sarah "Miss Congeniality" Palin don't agree? The government has no place regulating skyrocketing insurance costs, and stepping in to help those millions without insurance, but has a right to tell me what to do with my vag? OIC.

*goes off to donate to Obama*

Also, I quit paying attention at the point when they started comparing whose Bracelet-That-I-Got-From-A-Dead-Soldier's-Mom is more sentimental or something. I hate politics. Just yank down your pants and whip out a ruler already.

And what the hell is up with this creepy Audience Reaction meter CNN had during the debate? Did they strap a bunch of people down and stick electrodes on their head? CREE-PEE.

SRS HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY POLL.

SO LOOKING AT THIS LATEST TWILIGHT PIC, I HAVE DECIDED THAT DR. CARLISLE CULLEN NEEDS TO FIND A NEW PERMANENT HOME IN A DIFFERENT FANDOM. HE BELONGS IN A HOSPITAL FULL OF OTHER HOT DOCTORS WHERE HE CAN HAVE LOTS OF HOT AFFAIRS WITH OTHER HOT DOCTORS, WHICH AS WE ALL KNOW IS EXACTLY WHAT GOES ON IN ANY REAL HOSPITAL.

THUS, THE CRUCIAL QUESTION:

(do not feel like making real poll again)

WHAT SHOW SHOULD DR. CARLISLE CULLEN MOVE TO?

<lj-pi>A)GREY'S ANATOMY - Meredith quickly falls for McVampy, but dies when she cuts an artery in a desperate bid for his attention.</lj-pi>
<lj-pi>B)HOUSE - House replaces Wilson with Carlisle as his BFF when he finds out Carlisle can just, like, buy him a monster truck or five, then decides to be turned to a vampire in hopes of curing his leg.</lj-pi>
<lj-pi>C)NONE OF THE ABOVE. Obvs Carlisle deserves his own show.</lj-pi>

I SUPPOSE IF YOU CAN THINK OF ANOTHER SHOW YOU CAN PUT IT IN COMMENTS, BUT PLZ TO HAVE SUPPORTING EVIDENCE AS TO WHY THIS SHOW IS HOT ENOUGH FOR C-LIZZLE, OK?

FOR YOUR TIME, ENJOY:

<lj-embed id="15" />

2 HR GREY'S PREMIERE IN 45 MINS.
sound the trumpets, strumpets.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN LOLCATS HAVE TOO MANY CHEEZBURGERS:

<lj-embed id="13" />

XDDD I CANNOT STOP WATCHING THIS OVER AND OVER. Which is bad because I'm trying to pay attention to Gossip Girl.

Which begs the question: Why is it that on TV shows, private school kids always seem to jazz up their Private School Uniforms with trendy blouses, or trendy shoes, or not having shirts tucked in and stuff? When I was in private school, if you didn't conform to the same polyster blend official issue blouse, skirt, socks, shoes, and tucked everything in and buttoned everything up, your ass got SENT HOME. This show is bullshit. But I guess because it's TV it has to be ~glamorous~.

And speaking of ~glamour~, who else saw the last ep of Mad Men? There are lots of really deep things I could say about that episode (like re: whats-her-face-redhead automatically getting passed over as head of broadcast operations because she HAS A VAGINA....so fucking trufax) but sadly this is what stood out to me the most:

I WANT HER DRESS SO EFFING BAD. I LOVE IT. I wish I could find a better picture D: GOOGLE WHY U FAIL ME?? I would wear it all day and be like BOW DOWN TO MY POLKA DOTS BITCH. And Betty bb you need to kick that lying mother chucker to the curb. U DONUT NEED HIM GURLLLL.

This post brought to you by That Time Of The Month (tm), Dunkin Donuts (R) Coffee, and Hershey's (R) Brand Chocolate.

EMMYS!

Stephen Colbert...yeah that's about all that's exciting this year.

8:08 The awards are being hosted by 5 PEOPLE. If that's not bad enough, it's 5 REALITY SHOW HOSTS, aka nominees for Best Reality Host. And I'm still annoyed Cat Deeley got snubbed. The only one of them who remotely deserves to be up there is Heidi Klum--whose clothes were just ripped off. By William Shatner. *sigh* Is it possible for awards shows to jump the shark?

8:09 TINA FEY & AMY POEHLER ILU!!! <3 <3 Why can't THEY host the damn show?

8:11 Best Supporting Actor, Comedy: Jeremy Piven, Entourage

8:19 Best Supporting Actress (WHY can't they follow the other award shows' lead and say FEMALE ACTOR or BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE? "Actress" is like saying "Authoress" or "Maillady" nowadays D:) : Jean Smart, Samantha Who (whuuuuut?)

8:26 KLUM EARRINGS ARE BLINDING ME

8:28 Marcia Cross = SKELETOR D:

8:29 Supporting Actor, Drama: Zelco Ebonics? Who?

8:33 AHHHH they just showed last year's Colbert/Stewart/Carell orgy!!! :D Ricky Gervais is making so much fun of Carell XD "Give me the emmy! Gimme! I had to sit through Evan Almighty!" XDDD

8:36 Best Director, Variety or Music show: The dude who directed the Oscars. Who coincidentally is also directing the Emmys. Well, now we know how he beat out THE TDS and TCR DIRECTORS >:O WTF

8:43 Best Supporting Actor With A Vagina, Drama: Dianne Wiest, In Treatment.

8:44 J-Love Hewitt, and Cheerleader. J-Love looks like someone beat her up in the alleyway of the Nokia Theatre.

8:47 Best Writing for a Variety/Music Show: THE COLBERT REPORT :DDD YAY!!! Finally, a show people actually watch. (That isn't on a premium cable channel).

8:57 Some old guy was just talking...I don't know. I'm looking at Red Carpet arrival pics on ONTD.

REMEMBER PERREY REEVES?

AKA DAVID DUCHOVNY'S EX AKA KRISTEN ON THE WORST XF EPISODE EVER?? She stars in Entourage now. Bitch can't act so IDK how that happened. She is not fit to walk that carpet. And yes, I am just jealous because she shagged DD, is that a problem?

9:01 JOSH GROBAN BRB TOUCHING MYSELF

9:06 OMG someone needs to YouTube Josh Groban singing 30 TV theme songs RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I HAVE TO WATCH THAT AGAIN. They even had X-Files and the Law & Order doink doink <3 <3 <3

ETA: Hurrah!
<lj-embed id="12" />

9:07 Laura Linney won something for John Adams. I want to see that.

9:08 I hate these "I'm A PC" ads.

9:09 Speaking of XF,

GILLZ!!! D: You look....miserable. Then again if I were like 13 months pregnant and had to steal Voldemort's robes to attend the Emmys, I'd be pissed off too.

9:17 THE DAILY SHOW!! Best Variety/Music Series :DDD Yes. Yes It is. Except for The Colbert Report.

9:20 Don't know who the winners for Best Guest Star were, but there's a 85% chance they were on 30 Rock apparently.

9:22 Haha Barry Sonnenfeld wins an award for something that doesn't star Will Smith. Yet.

9:26
THAT'S STEVEN'S DAUGHTER (on the right). She's probably the only teenage girl alive whose dates actually WANT to meet her father :/
STEVEN: I want my daughter home before ten! And if you hurt her, I'll--
BOY: Put me On Notice? :DDD YES!

9:40 omg get on with it plzz

9:44 JON AND STEPHEN!! I swear to god anything having to do with Jon and/or Stephen has been the only highlight of this evening. Oh and Josh Groban.

9:50 I love how so far 3 of the winners have not even bothered showing up. They were probably all, "fuck it, I'm staying home and watching new Entourage tonight."

9:57 Don Rickles & Kathy Griffin FTMFW!!

10:01 Further proof this show is sinking: Sally Field is wearing Kate Winslet's dress from Titanic.

10:09 Neil Patrick Harris: CLAP FOR OLD MAN WHO DIED, BITCHES. CLAP CLAP CLAP.
Audience: ONLY FOR YOU, NPH.

10:13 CYNTHIA NIXON WON FOR PLAYING THE CRAZY CHICK ON SVU!!!! :DDD YAY MIRANDA!!

AND SOME DUDE JUST WON FOR DIRECTING AN EPISODE OF HOUSE! THE ONE WHERE CTB DIES!

Finally we're starting to get to the good stuff.

10:23 WTF is "Bernard and Doris"? But yay Paul Giamatti! He belongs in the Twitchy Club with Vincent D'Onofrio (WHY IS HE NEVER NOMINATED!?!?) and Jeff Goldblum (lulz)

10:25 Best Actor, Comedy Series: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock. In other news, Candice Bergen looks manlier tonight than she ever did in her Murphy Brown shoulder padded power suits :/

10:28 Best Actor with Breasts in a Drama: GO TEAM MARISKA!! ....Too bad the winner is Glenn Close, for Damages. I thought that show got canceled wtf.

10:38 Best Actor with a Penis in a Drama: IDK BUT IT'S NOT HUGH LAURIE D:<<< AND IT'S NOT MICHAEL C HALL D:<<<<<< WHAT FUCKERY IS THIS!

10:41 Best Actor Who Is Tina Fey: TINA FEY 30 ROCK YAY :DDDD She looks smokin' tonight too.

10:49 They're dragging this Best Reality Host thing on way too long. Blehhh.

10:53 Awww Betty White and Mary Tyler Moore! And yay Best Comedy 30 Rock!
THAT'S GIRL POWER!!!!

10:55 Boo House and Dexter also lost Best Drama. But MAD MEN is awesome too so I'm excited for them and AMC. But I am sads for House and Dexter :( COME ON ALREADY!!

Okay ice cream and then bedtime. Emmys made of 75% fail this year, which is actually a vast improvement over last year :/

hurricanes make me emo.

It seems like just yesterday I was staying up all night, waiting for Hurricane Rita to hit. Now it's Hurricane Ike. (Ike? They're really starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel with these hurricane names lately.) The only difference is I was actually in Houston for Rita, now I am safe in New York. But that doesn't make me feel any better, as my dad is still in Houston, and I have many friends and aquaintances living in its path.

This thing is freakin' ENORMOUS. It's practically the size of the entire state, and Texas is, well, freakin' enormous.

I just got a text from one of my friends in Houston, that he already doesn't have power. (Oh, CNN is now reporting 725,000 are already without power.) In Galveston, most of the beach houses are purposely built on these high stilts, to protect against high water. The water has already covered the stilts.

And this thing hasn't even hit full force yet.

I was in Galveston back in June, just chillaxin' on the beach. It's one of my favorite places in Texas (and I don't have many). It was so quiet and sunny and peaceful. They seemed to have bounced back well from Katrina and Rita. I hate that it seems to get pummeled yearly now. It's a very resilient little island though.

And some people still have the gall to say climate change doesn't exist. FFS. It wasn't like this 10 years ago.

UGH people are so stupid. Now they are reporting there are people in Galveston who didn't evacuate when they were basically told EVACUATE OR YOU WILL DIE, and now they're suddenly crying "OMG THE WATER'S UP TO MY HOUSE COME RESCUE ME!!! D:" Um, rescue crews can't get out there right now, moron. You should have left when they told you to. Why don't people ever learn?

I hate and fear hurricanes. People too easily underestimate how destructive water can be. Mix it with 90 mph winds, and, well.

But that doesn't mean we can't have some LULZ :D And Anderson Cooper is always sexiest when chasing hurricanes XD

Please keep everyone in Texas in your thoughts/prayers this morning.

I'm liveblogging the VMAs again this year, so keep refreshing this post. (I was actually invited to a watch party, but I am not dragging my ass downtown tonight when I have to be at work really effing early tomorrow.)

A general query to my Brit peeps...who the fuck is Russell Brand? No one here in the States knows who he is yet he is somehow hosting the VMAs. We wiki'd him and are still scratching our heads. But we spent all week imitating his voice on the promos (I'm Russell Braaaaaaahhhhhnd! Say my nayyme Britneeeeey?") He seems like a trip.

~LIVEBLOG
8:00-8:27 WHAR IS RPATTZ?????

8:28 MICHAEL PHELPS LOL

8:38 WHAR IS RPATTZ

8:43 I miss old-school, dirrrrty Christina Aguilera. Or even nominated.

10:12 YAY PINK. YAY someone not made of fail.

10:22 I WANT ASHLEE SIMPSON TO GO INTO LABOR RIGHT NOW. That would be epic.

10:25 LOL MCLOVIN.

10:26 WHOOOOA JORDIN SPARKS "It's okay to wear promise rings because not every girl wants to be a slut."

O_o

JORDIN UR REPUBLICAN?

10:32 RIHANNA YOU WERE ALREADY ON. Oh wait, that's right...MTV had trouble finding enough performers to fill all the slots this year.

They should just have had 2 hours of RPattz playing RockBand. That >>>>>>>>>this.

10:38 WORK IT XTINA. This "Genie In A Bottle" remix is HOT.

11:04 I stopped paying attention about 20 minutes ago. I'm pretty certain nothing exciting happened.

11:19 Can Yay West is performing. This shit is ovah. I'm going to go eat ice cream and climb into bed and ponder the meaning of my life.

ALL YOU REALLY NEED TO WATCH:
<lj-embed id="11" />

NEW YORK - On Sept. 9, the U.S. publisher of "Harry Potter" will premiere a highly ambitious series with a mystery ending for readers and a couple of puzzlers for the industry: How big is the market for a multimedia story — and can a phenomenon be conceived by a publisher rather than created by the public?

*headdesk* I've already seen this type of thing lead to EPIC FAIL.
epic energy crisis

Soooooo I got my first electric bill in the mail, and it's about FOUR TIMES more than I was expecting to pay DDD: Holy kilowatts, Batman. There are a few reasons why I was expecting it to be high this month, but it still caught me way off guard. So I need your eco-expertise:

What are some awesome energy-saving tips you guys know that I should employ (and that are worth the effort)???

I've already banned myself from using the A/C or dishwasher, like, EVER AGAIN, and I've started unplugging some appliances when not in use (microwave, phone/ipod chargers, fans, etc). I don't leave any lights or fans on when I leave for work (though this makes me nervous because I don't like it being obvious no one's home if I'm gone at night) It doesn't help that this apartment is not eco-friendly at all, despite being fully renovated...everything is electric, including the stove. I don't think it's insulated well. I wanted to put in CFL lightbulbs, but I have this fancy shmancy recessed lighting everywhere and I can't reach without a 10 foot ladder. (And I hate HATE ladders. I'm phobic. I get dizzy and start panicking after the 2nd rung.) Ugh. So before I start updating my LJ by candlelight, what else can I do?

AZKATRAZ

I'm thinking about going. It's the first HP conference I actually stand a chance of being able to make it to. Anyone else thinking about going? I know it's a whole year away...

Also, did I completely miss it, or has there NEVER been an HP conference in New York City?? I don't remember ever hearing of one. WTF?? How is that possible? How have they had them in irrelevant cities, like, Toronto, but not HERE? **sniffs indignantly** I am appalled. What's next, Des Moines? SHAME.

I know it would be expensive, but if they could pull it off in London, it can def. be done here. This needs to be rectified immediately.

Or at least have one someplace like....Bermuda. Nice and warm with a beach and pool boys wearing nothing but wizard hats in strategic places could bring me margaritas. If I planned a conference, that's what I would do. (Which is probably why I don't.)

(*is hoping there are no f-listers from Toronto and Des Moines* No offense...really.
When I get really bored, one of the things I like to distract myself with is taking people I know, or know of, and trying to figure out what Hogwarts House they would be in. This time, I think it would be fun to see what you guys think. And thus I present

THE SORTING HAT MEME

I (and you!) will comment to this post with the names of anybody well-known--real or fictional, alive or dead. Then everyone can reply to each name with what house--Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Ravenclaw (or Sparklypoo or Squib)--you think that person would belong in. Is Barack Obama an all-inclusive Hufflepuff, or a cunning Slytherin [he is a politician, after all ;)] ?? Is Dana Scully more Gryffindor than Ravenclaw? THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS THAT MUST BE DEBATED.

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! BRING YOUR FRIENDS!!!

today is going to be.....special.

I can feel it already.

First, JOBAMA!

I did not get a text message at 3 am like everyone else, even though I signed up for it >:( I am quite chagrinned. But not chagrinned enough to go vote for McCain.

Then, I was on my way to work today (yes, 8 am on a Saturday, be envious), and I'm waiting to cross the street and this creepy old man gets right in my face and says,

"CAN I LICK YOUR TOES?"

I thought I heard him incorrectly, so I eloquently asked, "Huh?"

"YOUR TOES ARE SO PRETTY. CAN I LICK THEM?" Dead serious.

D: D: D:

He then proceeded to ask me if he can be my boyfriend, and when I lied and said I already have one, he asked if he can take me on a date to Starbucks.

AND I RAN. I RAN SO FAR AWAY.

Looking back, I should have just said, "yeah, you can lick my toes, for $1000." After all, this is New York, and I have rent to pay, and I could just bleach my toes afterward or cut them off or something.

*hugs toes*

olympics, we need to talk.

OLYMPICS: HAI SPARKLY! WE HAS ANOTHER DATE TONIGHT YES?
ME: No, I am mad at you.
OLYMPICS: D: WHY???
ME: First, all this bullshit with the 12-year-old sixteen-year-olds.
OLYMPICS: ZOMG I DUNNO WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT
ME: And how is it that a Chinese gymnast could fall on her knees and still get a gold medal? Or go out of bounds? Totally rigged.
OLYMPICS: OMG THE JUDGES ARE ALL KNOWING WE DO NOT QUESTION THEIR WISDOM!!!
ME: STFU. And then today, synchronized swimming has been relegated to the OXYGEN network? And aired while I was at work so I missed it? WTF???
OLYMPICS: PLZ DO NOT BE HATIN I LOVE U DDD:
ME: No, I really can't be around you right now. I'm going to watch a DVD and go to bed.
OLYMPICS: NOOOOO WAIT DON'T LEAVE ME I HAS DIVERS IN SPEEDOS TONITE!!
ME: No.
OLYMPICS: AND BALANCE BEAM!
ME: O RLY?? 8D
ME: *cough* I mean, oh, fine. But I'm still mad at you.

Seriously, though, these Olympics have been filled with controversy and the IOC is just turning a blind eye. I'm so over it.

I was planning on not watching tonight, and instead watched Stick It, which is of course the gymnastics version of Bring It On [and if you have never heard of either, you obvs have much more refined taste in teen movies than I do], which features a cameo by a then-unknown gymnast named Nastia Liukin, and also, I discovered, stars Kellan Lutz aka Emmett in Twilight. HOLLA. But then my friend IMed me informing me the balance beam final was on and I couldn't not watch. GO TEAM USA FIGHT THOSE PREPUBESCENT RED COMMIE BITCHES.

ETA:YAY SHAWN JOHNSON!!! I'm so happy for her!! I feel like the only person who likes her better than Nasty-ah.

adventures in feminism

YES. YES. YES.

I agree with this Twilight review sfm. I would like to note that I still have not finished BD, because instead of being unable to put it down, I am finding it increasingly hard to pick it up and read for more than 2 subway stops at a time. Which sucks, because I really can't wait to write my own scathing review.

And now kids, today's moment of zen:

'Feminist' Columbia University demonizes men, lawsuit claims
By Thomas Zambito
Daily News Staff Writer

Monday, August 18th 2008, 8:29 PM

Anti-feminist lawyer Roy Den Hollander sued Columbia University Monday, accusing it of turning feminism into the school's religion - and teaching that men are "the primary cause for most, if not all, the world's ills."

Hollander says Columbia discriminates against men by teaching a doctrine that scapegoats men for all of history's troubles.

In a suit filed in Manhattan Federal Court, he complains that the Ivy League school in Morningside Heights uses federal money to fund a "religionist belief system called feminism."The class-action suit argues that Columbia's women's studies program demonizes men and exalts women to justify discrimination against men based on collective guilt.

The civil rights suit is the latest in a Hollander-led campaign attacking the alleged infringement of men's rights.

Hollander, a self-described anti-feminist, has also sued city nightclubs for discriminating against men by charging them more on discount ladies' nights. Hollander is suing to recover damages on behalf of current and former male students. Columbia should offer equivalent programs for men, he said. Also named as defendants are the federal and state governments, which provide funding to run the campus' women's studies programs. He refused to give his age, claiming it would hinder his chances of picking up younger women at city nightspots. "I'm always running into women who think I'm younger than I am, so I don't want to disillusion them," Hollander noted.

A Columbia spokesman declined to comment.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA PRICELESS.

As a Women's Studies minor myself, I would like to clarify once and for all that we do not demonize all men. Just the ones who are ignorant asshat lawyers who lie about their age at bars to pick up women.

<s>*goes back to drooling over sexually objectified photographs of one Michael Phelps*</s>
